If you are interested in volunteering with Lower Alsace Ambulance, you will need to stop by our station and pick-up an application. We vote on new members at our monthly meetings on the first Monday of every month. If we vote to accept you in to our organization, you will be a Probationary Member for 90 days. During that time, you will start out as a "third" on our ambulance until you become more familiar with patient care, our area, etc. Also during that time you do not have the privilege to vote at our monthly meetings and if you do not come to "run" at least one shift during those 90 days you are automatically removed from our roster. After the first 90 days, we must vote to either make you a Full Member or extend your Probationary Membership another 90 days, depending on the circumstances. Once you are a Full Member and have been cleared to "run" on the ambulance as a Primary Crew Member, you may regularly sign-up for shifts on our schedule.
You must be 18 years-old or more in order to apply for Probationary Membership, however, if you are between the ages of 16 and 18, and are interested in joining our organization, you may stop by our station to pick-up a Junior Membership application. This type of application must be signed by your parent or guardian and if you are accepted, you will still follow the same Probationary Member rules, however, we must also follow the Labor Laws concerning minors and their work hours. You will also be considered a Junior Member and have some other guidelines to follow per our by-laws.
In order to apply to our organization, the main requirement is that you are a certified Emergency Medical Technician as well as possess a valid CPR certification. Another helpful certification to possess is EVOC (Emergency Vehicle Operators Course). If you are not an EMT or you are not sure if EMS is for you, you may stop by our station and pick-up an Observer's Form. After you fill out this form, you may "run" on our ambulance as an observer and simply go along with us on emergency calls and get a feel for what it is like before you make a decision or get your EMT.
If you have any questions about volunteering with our organization, call our station at 610-779-0190 and ask for Matt, Carol, John, or Deron.
