ABOUT OUR SQUAD
Lower Alsace Ambulance is a non-profit volunteer BLS (Basic Life Support) ambulance service that has been providing quality ambulance service to the community for 20 years. As an integral part of the Emergency Medical Services System of Berks County, Lower Alsace Ambulance has provided emergency and non-emergency services to thousands of residents of Lower Alsace Township, Mount Penn Borough and parts of Alsace Township since 1986. With the cooperation of other local EMS services, as well as with that of our police and fire departments, Lower Alsace Ambulance continues to care for the community in it's time of need.
Lower Alsace Ambulance is licensed by the Pennsylvania Department of Health to provide Basic Life Support ambulance service. Both the ambulances and the service itself met rigorous standards in order to qualify for licensure. All of the Lower Alsace Ambulance crew members are trained to the minimum of Emergency Medical Technician - Basic, with several members holding advanced EMS and Rescue certifications.
Lower Alsace Ambulance vehicles are equipped with the latest in state-of-the-art medical equipment, including Lifepak 500 Automated External Defibrillators, or AEDs, which allow for rapid assessment and treatment of victims of sudden cardiac arrest.
The current day Lower Alsace Ambulance was organized in 1986-87 from the remnants of the Lower Alsace Fire Company Ambulance. When the fire company determined it no longer had the ability to operate the ambulance, the new Lower Alsace Volunteer Ambulance Association was formed to fill the need for ambulance service in the community. With the assistance of the fire company, who helped pay for training and gave us the title for the ambulance, 15 members of the community put together an ambulance service. This service continues today. Staffed by volunteers from the community and available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, Lower Alsace Ambulance truly is "Your Community EMS Service".
